Happy B'Day

It’s a cool night. The road is deserted. She rides down on her bike, enjoying the stinging wind on her face. She wipes out her watering eye. With no destination in mind, she rides on. Back at home, her room is filled with continuous chatter of the RJ, the light is still on, the bed sheet is rolled up in a ball, cushions on the floor. Somewhere down, in the living room, there is lot of yelling, screeching and hugging. The chips are dipped and re-dipped, glasses are filled and re-filled, the party continues. “I hope they like my Birthday cake”, she thinks as she continues her mindless journey. __________ I hope you all have great birthdays, especially my Taurus mates: Astha, Sunita, Nidhi, Diana,Suhana,Jyotsana, Bani, Neha K, Rinchen, Anubha, Mehak, Nothingman's Friend, Neha P, Sunaina, Saheba,Shreya. EXTRA BAGGAGE

It’s an old, rugged, blue denim bag. It has got a spacious, big pocket. There are two small ones in the front for trinkets etc and a side space to carry your liquids. A small keychain hangs by the zipper. The tiny bells on it tinkle everytime you move. At the bottom, there’s a stain, most probably left by a chewing gum. The corner that had got torn is now mended. “Hey Merel, can you accommodate my book in your bag? I am not carrying mine.” “Sure! I am used to carrying extra baggage”

H.NO 2,11th STREET

Do you know the girl who lives on the 11 th street? Her house is second one from the left. Outside her gate are shrubs of roses-pink, yellow and white. As you go inside, you will meet her little brown dog called Pencil. Pencil loves playing with his plastic toy-bone. The living room is a colourful one. The curtains and the cushions have beautiful patterns. In the dining hall there is a huge painting of an old man, whose eyes follow you wherever you go. Eyes- yes! The girl has beautiful eyes. Once you meet her you will be totally mesmerized. When she starts talking, you just want to listen. Her house has other rooms too, including a basement. The basement is where she plays the piano. A huge, antique piano. She’s a natural. Her fingers meticulously move over the black and white keys and her mellifluous voice fills the air. Besides the piano is a huge box. Its decorated with lots of small shells, like eyes all over it. And if you open the box you will find an eye each of all t...

TRANCE

The room is completely dark except for the moonlight pouring in from the window. The wooden floor is cracked at many places with moss growing out of it. She lies there, in the corner, alone and desolate. Her gown is torn, her hair disheveled. Her eyes are groggy because of hours of crying. Her cheeks are stained with streaks of washed out mascara. How many hours have passed by, she doesn’t know. Somewhere in the distance, she hears a faint noise. It grows louder and louder. Someone outside is playing a flute. In his own world, he is playing a happy tune. Suddenly she stands up and starts dancing to his tune. Round and round, she moves in perfect balance. Never before had she felt so free. The person outside, oblivious of this, continues his journey. Slowly the music fades away. The room is completely dark except for the moonlight pouring in from the window and in the middle of it, she is dancing and laughing out loud.

HOWZZAT!!

He had been waiting for so long for this match. It wasn’t everyday that an international match was held in his city. What made it more special was that his favourite teams were playing. It would be the clash of titans! The stadium would be jam packed. He had to be there. He had made his arrangements beforehand. He wasn’t going to make any mistake this time. The day finally came. Although it was a day and night match, he was up at 6 in the morning. It took him an hour to reach the stadium. The security was tight and each and every belonging of his was checked thoroughly. After all these ordeals he was finally inside. He hurried to get a nice place for himself. The atmosphere was electric. Thousands of fans had turned up to cheer their favourites. Flags fluttered in the air, and slogans were being chanted. The bowler of the opposition team came on with full steam, and the batsman pulled it for four. The crowd was on its feet, Roaring! At the same time he picked up his camphor an...

A cup of Tea and much more

Sometime in July last year the media people encroached upon the Law Canteen of PU. It was when the MassComm Dept shifted to a new building. The new batch that came was equally excited about the proximity to the canteen as about the whole new block for themselves. It was here where we (freshers) sat together, initially in one big group and then later in different smaller ones, to know each other. After all we were to spend the next two years here. It was here where we waited eagerly for our seniors to join us. It was here where we actually got to interact with them. It was here where we completed our assignments, discussed our term papers, documentaries, sought internship advices, complimented each other, shared tiffins to softwares, cut birthday cakes, called out for ‘Santosh’ or ‘Nizam’ for another cup of ‘cha’ after a tiring cricket match. We would huddle up inside when it rained and spread all out in the winter sun. The canteen was also the part of the first ever Al...

Single and Unavailable

While growing up, Single had many friends. He liked to play with all of them. Hide n seek, cycling, cricket were some of his favourite sports. As he grew up, he realized that he and Available had become very close friends. They would go to parties together, go on geris and hang out with the rest of the gang. But it was always Single and Available. However, slowly Single started to grow suspicious. Whenever Available met someone, Single would feel insecure. There was a constant fear of losing Available . There were frequents arguments and both could feel the rift between them. Then one day Single met Unavailable. The two had lots in common and Single loved Unavailable’s company. When the two were together, they didn’t have worry about anybody else. There were no fights, no insecurity-just loads of fun. From that day onwards, Single had a new best friend-Unavailable.
